That Was My TBHS So Now U May Cry: This is my ANZAC essay aka Story
*Warning* You May Cry Because I Wrote This With A Very Sad Ending And BTW my teacher Mr.Keen Wrote the First Paragraph.
The Battle of Kapyong
-Intro
In 1950, tensions on the Korean peninsula ran high, and on the 25th of June, North Korea, supported by communist China and Russia, invaded its democratic neighbour South Korea. They sent massive forces of 80,000 men with rifles, machine guns and heavy artillery to sweep through the entire country like a wild, untamed forest fire. The capital of South Korea, Seoul, fell 3 days after the North invaded, and it looked as though the rest of the country would soon follow. However, the UNS, Afraid of the spread of communism, sent a multi-nation force to Pusan in the south to halt the advance of the NK war machine. The allies forces attacked with such ferocity that the North Koreans were driven back over the 38th parallel past their capital, Pyongyang which was rapidly captured and all the way to the border of China. The UN forces, united under the leadership of General MacArthur Appeared ready to invade China and as a result, he communist country attacked with forces of nearly 900,000 troops, and forced them back over the border of South Korea. By April, they were ready to invade South Korea, and Seoul was in their terrible sights.
-The Story
My Name Is Fred Jones, and this is my experiences of war. I promise this tale isn’t gruesome, only a little sad. My first ever battle, and possibly my last was fought in Kapyong (Gaypeyong) valley, in South Korea. It all began in 1950 when my spirits were high and my heart full of love. My daughter had just said her first word, “Dadda”. I switched on the small, grey radio. It burst into life with a crackle of static electricity, and a loud, crisp voice boomed out into our small, modern shack. It was almost drowned out by the sound of the salty waves crashing on the windy, unforgiving beach. Daisy, my sweet rosy cheeked and blonde haired pride and joy started crying, just a split second before the radio blurted out an urgent call. “All men must report to their local police/sheriff office at once!. Elle, my wife burst into the room. “Freddie, you can’t leave! “She exclaimed... “Elle, my dearest you heard that call...” I whispered uncertainly. Daisy toddled into the room “not now sweetie, go back to your bed”I said softly. I Needed time to think. That radio call was probably calling men to war. The punishment for ignoring that call was ultimate shame. I couldn’t bring that upon my family. “Elle... I Must”. Her face crumpled and she threw her arms around my neck. Her salty tears warmed my shoulder as I gently prised her off. With a heavy heart full of regret I whispered “keep my daisy safe until my return”. My Heart tore in two as I realised these could be my last words in our small but comfy house. “I Love You!” I shouted over the sound of the pounding waves. Elle’s eyes were red and teary and Daisy was saying “dadda”repeatedly. I drew a small, pink teddy bear from my coat pocket. The tag on it said ‘stay sweet my daisy’. I handed it to her and silently walked away. I heard daisy scream and I imagined her, tears running races down her rosy cheeks, and clutching her teddy. She might never know her father. My workmate Matt Rentexture was jogging along in front of me. He sniffed sadly. I could see the pain in his eyes as I walked past. The very next day, we were marched to the port. The trek through the town would quite possibly take all day. And so we were given one can of spinach each. I opened mine right away and shovelled big green lumps into my dry mouth. Spinach was a rare treat, and very very welcome. Finally at 10:17 pm we reached the huge mother ship. As we were boarding we were instructed to grab a box of sandwiches, 3 cans of spinach, one bed sheet, 1 rug and a harsh camouflage suit. My cabin was small and alienating. Months later, a sobbing man was moved into my cabin. I tried my best to comfort him out of my kind heart, but he was a difficult man. A few minutes before, a General had said “1 hour till dock on, I want you up on the bridge, now” so me and Ken Walthington, that was the man’s name, climbed 5 stairs. They had big guns chucked at them and thrown overboard onto a small rowing boat. There was already 6 men in the boat, one that I recognised even. My brother-in-law Quincy had been promoted to general. North Korea was invading now. Yells and Screams of war echoed from the mainland and Quincy and another man paddled madly. We reached the cold black sand and staggered out. Gunfire immediately began and I saw many men fall. An hour later, Many Canadians, New Zealanders and Americans joined us in our fight for freedom. The Chinese attacked, merciless and unforgiving, over their dead and wounded.
-The conclusion
I thought of my family. Then I thought of my country. All those Australians. They depended on us. We were the soldiers fighting for the lives of every man and woman, every girl and boy, every son and daughter. Their weight bore down on me. Then The Chinese soldier shot. Black crept into my vision like a panther and blood blossomed on my chest. I knew I would never set foot on Australia’s soft soil ever again. Never to see my Elle or Daisy ever again. I fought the pain. My heart was pounding bravely as my body shut down. I let go. I had promised my wife I would love her till my last breath. I have fulfilled that promise.
-The Legacy
These ANZACS and many more will be remembered, honoured and respected for generations and their legacy will live on.
